The main principle of this program is to mobilize the available resources of the government through local elected bodies for the sustainable development of the target people. With this aim, MAITRI is working WITH the elected representatives of the Panchayats FOR the benefit of the target people. |

To enhance the knowledge of the elected representatives, MAITRI organizing Capacity building and leadership training programs. During this implementing period 18 such programs were conducted. After gaining the confidence, 61 members from the targetpeople were elected as People’s representatives at the Panchayat, Block and Union levels. In order to boost up their interest a Block level convention for the Presidents were organized. This convention yielded |

a good result. Now all most all the Presidents are taking active part in the activities of their Panchayats. Support committees were formed in all the Panchayats. The federation and SHG members were included in the Support Committees. With the constant effort of the sector, the village Panchayats has passed resolutions to include HIV infected people into the beneficiaries list. In order to up date he information of the Panchayats, MAITRI is planning to conduct “Participatory Rural Appraisal “exercise in all the Panchayats. A four days orientation-cum-training was organized to the sector staff on the techniques of PRA, and methodologies to be adopted in the exercise. |
