Counseling Center:
 
               The main purpose of establishing this Counseling centers by Tamilnadu government under the   Tamilnadu Health System Project is to provide support service to the existing health care personnel at the hospitals. As the Medical Officer on duty at the out patients ward does not have much time for patient counseling and advice. No counseling of any sort is provided to the patients either by the doctor or by the paramedics.  Hence this program is launched by government. MAITRI have deputed three of its staff to work as Counselors in Cumbum Government Hospital. The counselors will be available in the hospital just round the clock in three shifts. The counselors will be available in the out patient block during the out patient house to provide counseling and support to the poor and disadvantaged people.
  
 
  The job description of these counselors is to explain the patients about the facilities available in the   hospital, Avoidance of exploitation, Guide in referrals and out patients, Guidance to make use of   various facilities in the hospital, and any other services entrusted with them for the welfare of the   patients in the hospital. The Counselors also attend the wards and provide counseling to ANC &   PNC mothers, Pre & Post Operative patients and Medical patients having Hypertension, Diabetes   mellitus and cardio vascular diseases. They also counsel the patients getting discharged from   hospitals regarding the follow up care.
                          A three days orientation cum training program was organized to these staff on   counseling techniques.  So far 1897 patients were counseled for various medical related problems.
