HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care & Support programs
 

As we are all aware the epidemic has become a major development threat, causing serious economic losses and far reaching socio-demographic changes.  HIV/AIDS can no longer be considered a “mere” health issue but a complex medical, social, economic, political, cultural and human rights problem. It is generally recognized thinking that HIV/AIDS is a fundamental development issue and must therefore become everybody’s business in the field of development.
  
 
                        
MAITRI do realized the importance of involving in the global crises, and started implementing HIV/AIDS related programs since 2001 with different approaches like, Identification of infected people, Counseling, Medication, Treatment for opportunistic infections, Referral,  Credit linkages, Reduction of social stigma, Empowerment of infected people etc, are the strategies adopted in implementing this programs.
  

 
               
During this reporting period the staff has identified 36 new infected cases from the target villages. So far 311 infected people have identified and at present 283 are getting assistance in one way or other from MAITRI. Nutritional assistance is being provided to the infected people. Training and Counseling sessions are conducted regularly to these people.As preventive strategy
 
 
 
                        MAITRI conducts Cultural programs and awareness campaigns in the villages with various topics on preventive measures. Under this awareness Campaigns MAITRI performs Cultural Programs, in the villages.

                      MAITRI also does counseling to the high risk people on the preventive measures. SHG are given orientation on the reduction of social stigma.  Constant follow up is given to the infected people and prevent them from further spreading the infection. MAITRI do organize training programs to the care providers, Peer Educators, and to the family members.
